The women in the Black Panther Party held it down.

They organized, led, defended, and sustained the movement. While headlines often focused on the men in uniform and rhetoric, women built the Party’s foundation: running community programs, teaching political education, managing day-to-day operations, recruiting and training members, handling communications, and, when necessary, taking up arms to protect meetings and people.
